Tahoe Spin
GoodMorning All!! We several of us met at the
Chevron at I-205 and MacArthur Drive in Tracy
around 0730.
We waited for a few others to show up and
then got straight to work. We left just
after eight and started off with two ZZR1200s a ST1300 and my Connie. I was the only one two-up but led the charge
as best I could onto the route.
The route took us past the City of Stockton via the CCF4 and 99
and onto the 88 where we passed through the Town of
Lockeford. We picked up a K1200RS
there and continued our quest for cold and one more rider in the City of Jackson.
We picked up another ZG1000 and began our
twisty accent up to Lake Tahoe. Just
before we hit Woodfords and just beyond Kit Carson Pass we hung a left onto 89N
for a quick jaunt over to connect with 50E.
Jonathan "Baron Von Buckethead" and
his ZG1000 split off from the group and went 50W to his destination.
The rest of us continued on to 89N. Ken had promised a good burger joint and by
now the bikes weren't the only ones starving for food. We stopped off at Emerald Bay for a few in
hopes of a bathroom (this is becoming all too familiar)
but alas with no luck. After a smoke and picture break we hopped
back on the two wheeled chariots and continued on.
We found a gas station near the North Lake and Steve asked a local (the best keepers of info around) for directions to a good burger joint. He suggested Jasons just down the road and in the direction we were headed.
I was able to point it out as I flew by. The others were able to stop as I had to
turn
around and come in for a second pass. 192miles we had ridden as a group. And just under three hours. We were making good time. We relaxed on the rear patio and basked in
the warm afternoon sun as we ate out burgers and scoped the view of beautiful
Lake Tahoe.
The Hardy Boys (AKA Steve and Ken on their
twin ZZRs) decided that they would head straight back via 50 to the 89 when we
split off 50 to 395. We said our
goodbyes (after some more bench racing and bs'ing) and hopped back upon our
chariots.
About three miles down the road the twins
caught up and talked about continuing on the ride with us but was short lived.
As we went our separate ways we each waved
and Steve utilized his ZZR1200 to give us a custom wave, or he damn near missed
the exit, either way…
Three of us continued down the sweepers of 50
to connect with the 395. This was
probably not the best time to figure out that the suspension on the bike was
not quite set up for high speed sweepers.
But hey, we survived and continued on into the Nevada Basin.
We started our ascent up and over Woodfords
and took a break in Pioneer at he Sierra Trading Post. Rob, Chava, Tammy, and I sat around for a
few bs'ing when two of the ugliest guys you'd ever see on some sweet ZZR1200s
blew by. I hopped on the radio and of
course Ken and Steve had ended up getting caught in traffic coming back through
South Lake Tahoe and made worse time than us!
We gathered up our stuff and continued on
about twenty minutes later. As we came
through Jackson there were those same guys.
We stopped and picked them up and let them tag along with us for the rest
of the trip. We had a pretty simple
ride on back, of course coming through Jackson pretty much ends the trip for
the next hour of flatlands and Sunday traffic.
Rob kicked off at EightMile and headed home, while the rest of us
continued our journey back to the 5.
Steve was the next to go
and split staying on 5S for another
100miles. Sal and Ken stayed with me as
we split the Sunday 205 traffic into and through Tracy. I kicked off at MacArthur and of course
wished them a safe ride home.
We logged 382.5Miles in just under 7Hrs, and
averaged a speed of 55.9MPH. I posted the pics on my website under
Tracy Riding Group. Rob posted some over at BARF also to check
out.
